Not all Ibejis came in pairs. For the most part, in the traditional application of the religion, an Ibeji was carved only if a twin died. Some parents, however, have Ibejis created upon the birth of twins, hoping to provide protection from death. Note the gap in the front teeth of this female. Museum quality.
