Royal Ceremonial Mask

  • country: Zaire
  • people: Kuba
  • medium: Wood, metal, beads, cowries
  • size: 24x9x13 inches
  • price: $5,000.
  • inventory #: rpg0194
This museum-quality mask represents Mboom, son of the great God, Woot. He was sent to Earth, by his father to establish the Kuba dynasty. He was accompanied by his sister, Ngaady a Mwaash, and his brother Mwaash Sham Bouy. All three masks are danced at royal ceremonies only. This mask is very unusual. Nearly all the mask's surface is covered with small, dark blue beads, and the inside is completely cloth- lined. An exceptionally well-done item.
