This very fine example was once attached to a brightly colored costume, and danced at funeral ceremonies. The ritual was to insure entrance into the Mwo society in the spirit world. This mask is very unusual in the use of enamel instead of water-based paint. While not exceptionally old, it is a rare, high quality piece.
