| Pay close attention to the detail of both masks. Note the refinement of the execution and the detail of the carving. The mask on the right shows the work of a master carver. The Baule themselves consider the piece on the right to be "better" than the one on the left. It is more beautiful and, thus, more desirable. Although African art is sometimes called "primitive," it is by no means crude or rough. Baule art is among the most refined in Africa. | ||
