| The less expensive mask on the left is actually closer to the older style masks used by this society. The more expensive one represents the current trend towards more brightly colored masks, using enamel paints and much more elaborate superstructures. The skill of the carver is greater in the execution of the piece on the right. The less expensive mask shows little evidence of wear. The more expensive mask was sold at a higher price because it was more highly regarded by the society for which it was created. | |
